A little about us:
We are a national, independent, non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. Our teams work every day to provide the highest standards of care, advance the science of brain development and train parents, professionals and policy makers to support children when and where they need it most.
Of the 74.5 million children in the United States, approximately 17.1 million have or have had a mental health disorder, rather than the number of children with cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. Half of all mental illnesses occur before age 14 and 75 percent at age 24.
Despite the magnitude of the problem, lack of awareness and entrenched stigma prevent most of these young people from receiving help. Children and adolescents who struggle with these disorders run the risk of academic failure, substance abuse and a confrontation with the juvenile justice system, all of which have a tremendous cost to them, their families and the community.
Our goal is to create a brighter future for our children and make three commitments:
1. Give these children access to the best and most effective treatments when and where they need them most.
2. Advance in the development of brain science to improve diagnosis and treatment.
3. Provide useful and accurate information that allows families and communities to get help.
Together with our supporters, we are helping children reach their full potential in school and in life. We share all our resources freely and do not accept any financing from the pharmaceutical industry.
